Living in Clay County and Surrounding Area

  1. Property Taxes are low in Clay County. The tax is 0.43 % of the total assessed value of the property.

  3. Clay County Schools test scores are consistently in the top 10% of all schools in North Carolina. There are only about 1300 students in all grades but currently former students attend Harvard, Duke, MIT, Georgia Tech, West Point Military Academy, Naval Military Academy, Air Force Academy, and UNC-Chapel Hill.


  4. Clay County has over 64,000 acres of national forest that accounts for more than 50% of the total land area. There are over 7 miles of the Appalachian Trail in Clay County.

  12. Georgia Mountains Fair Grounds is location of annual fair and the spring and Fall Music Festivals. Crafts and entertainment are included. Old fiddlers convention and superstar country music concerts.


  13. Other entertainment includes Biking, Gem Mining, Horseback Riding, River Tubing and kayaking.


  14. Young Harris College offers music, theater, and art exhibits.

  15. John C. Campbell Folk School is located in nearby Brasstown, NC.
